The series

Six character-led wildlife films, each following a single iconic species from its origins in the womb to its first challenges in the wild: chimpanzee, elephant, lion, grizzly bear, wild dog and sea lion.

I made it to Uganda for one chimp shoot just before lockdown, and took most of the photographs on this page there. After that, the series was made from home.

Stars I never met

The series featured hyper-realistic silicone animal fetuses, never seen before, which everyone took for CGI. They were built at Elstree and filmed in a warm-water hemispherical tank in Southampton, using specialist in-utero filming techniques.

Because of lockdown, I never saw them in person. At the end of the project they were shipped off to National Geographic, who had paid for them.
