The film

Ultra-athlete and shark advocate Ross Edgley goes head to head with four of the ocean's most formidable sharks, in a one-of-a-kind shark-sport science challenge.

We tested him physically in Loughborough, and filmed in the Menai Strait at a huge tidal change, to see how fast he could swim with the full speed of the tide behind him.

He flew in an aerobatic plane to feel what it's like to manoeuvre like a hammerhead, and practised with synchronised swimmers to breach the surface like a great white in South Africa.

On deck

Off Grand Bahama and Bimini, I didn't dive, but I was there on deck as the footage came up and the divers surfaced, talking about the sharks. The great hammerheads were massive females, and so gentle. On one, the height from the bottom of her pectoral fins to the top of her dorsal fin was six feet.
